Go on Vacation. Save gas.

If there’s one thing you get to do as a travel nurse, it’s a great way to see a lot of this beautiful country that, quite frankly, most people don’t. But as a traveler, you have expenses that come with life on the road. And whether you’re traveling in your RV or your Honda CRV, you’re going to be buying a lot of one particular item: Gas.

Hopefully, high prices at the pump aren’t killing your traveling career. And hopefully the high prices aren’t stopping you from taking some time for yourself and going on a vacation. If high priced have got you down, here are some tips that’ll make a travel nurse vacation less expensive:

Are high gas prices putting a crimp in your travel plans? Ease the burden with these simple gas-saving tips:

1. Look for Hotels Who Don’t Mind Giving Back.

Many hotels are using the gas price crunch as a way to offer you incentives for staying with them. Some are offering special summer rates, while others are giving gas cards to visitors who stay with them. Many hotels have begun to offer free gas cards in an effort to offset the ever-increasing price of gas. Take advantage of such an offer, and you could find yourself cruising for free – or at least at a more reasonable price.

2. Explore your Vacation Destination with Local Transportation.

Now, this doesn’t apply to every destination, but if you’re going someplace urban like New York City, why not explore the city the way you would if you lived there - through public transportation. This cuts our the hassle (and price) of parking AND gas. Definitely a no-brainer when you compare the price of subway tokens to a gallon of gas, parking rates and the number of fender-benders that happen every day.

3. Put the Pedal (or the sandal) to the Sand.

When you’re at a beach destination, chances are there isn’t a lot do to beyond a certain point, so why not rent, or bring your own bike to get around beach areas. For some beach towns, using a bike to get around might even be faster than traveling by car. Same goes for walking. Garmin makes a handy thing called the Nuvi 350, which isn’t just an in-car GPS navigation system, it also works as a hand-held too. Enter your destination and the Nuvi 350 will tell you everything from how far you have to walk to how long it will take you.

4. Get Your Vacation Fix / all-in-one Place.

Pick an all-in-one resort destination and once you arrive you won’t need your car until you’re ready to leave. These resorts have easy access to food, relaxation, entertainment and even exercise options and luxury spas. There are enough all-in-one resorts so that you won’t have trouble finding one.

We’ve already touched on a few Travel Nurse Destinations, with more to come as time goes on.
