Top Ten Nursing Issues for 2008: Advanced Practice Nurses

Advanced Practice Nurses (APRN)

Registered nurses who possess advanced education and skills quite often work in specialized practices, and can find themselves in positions such as certified nurse midwife or certified registered nurse anesthetist. Some advanced practice nurses (APRN), can even diagnose medical conditions and illnesses - even write prescriptions. APRNs are currently an important political issue because their advanced knowledge, capabilities and growth are vital to improving working conditions for overstressed and overworked nurses. The increase in advanced practice nurses is also an essential part of providing quality care for an ever-expanding aging population.
