The concept of having a travel nurse’s license recognized mutually by states that belong to the Nurse Licensure Compact generally increases the ability of travel nurses (and nurses in general) to find assignments and employment in a number of states. It also allows for the delivery of new, innovative practices such as telenursing.
As well, the NLC supports public health and safety efforts by encouraging cooperation among party states in terms of licensing and regulation. As time goes on and more states enter the NLC, the United States will move much closer to the point where one home state license will grant a nurse nationwide work privileges.
