What Happens When A Travel Nurse Moves To Another State?

As part of the NLC, a travel nurse can hold a home state license in only state at any given time. If a travel nurse changes their permanent residence from one NLC state to another , then the travel nurse has to relinquish their license in the former state of residence and apply for licensure in their new NLC home state. Under the Compact, a travel nurse may move back to their previous NLC party state and re-establish licensure or move to another party state and apply for licensure there. If a travel nurse moves to a state that has not enacted or is not a membere the of Compact, the nurse’s previous home state license converts to a Single-State license valid only in the former home state. A single-state nursing license does not entitle the travel nurse to practice under multistate privilege in other party states.
