In part I of this post, I covered ways that travel nurses could organize their paperwork so they’ll be ready for that next adventure at a moment’s notice. Today, I’m going to cover the organizing of your Continuing Education Units, or CEUs as well as some other practical tips that will help any travel nurse get more organized.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are vital to every travel nurse. Each state has different CEU requirements for nurses and travel nurses, so be sure you’re up-to-date with their requirements. Most states want you to have 30 CEUs and some even have more specific requirements. For example, Florida requires HIV, abuse and medication error CEUs. Many hospitals even give CEUs during orientation, so be sure to get a certificate for your travel nurse file. You can even get CEUs online which is very practical for travel nurses. Be sure to get a certificate for every CEU you complete.
Keep a list of all your nursing schools and the address you need to write to in order to request transcripts. You should always have a few copies of your official transcripts on file just in case. Official transcripts should be sealed and given to potential employers or licensing boards still sealed.
The good news about all this organization work is that once a travel nurse gets it done, it’s very simple to update the information as you go and find the info you need, when you need it.
